Instructions

Pre-chill the specimen tube in a freezer prior to collection. 

Specimen Collection Criteria

Collect: One Green-top tube Sodium Heparin.

Physician Office/Draw Specimen Preparation

Centrifuge the specimen as soon as possible. Transfer the plasma to a transport tube. Mark the specimen type as plasma on the transport tube. Keep at room temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F). Do not submit unspun tubes.

Preparation for Courier Transport

Transport: 0.5 mL plasma, room temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F). (Minimum: 0.3 mL)

Rejection Criteria

  • Whole blood.
  • Specimens not collected and processed as indicated.

In-Lab Processing

Centrifuge the specimen as soon as possible. Transfer the plasma to a transport tube. Mark the specimen type as plasma on the transport tube. Do not submit unspun tubes.

Transport: 0.5 mL plasma, frozen (-20°C/-4°F or below). (Minimum: 0.3 mL)

Specimen Stability for Testing:

Room Temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F): 7 days
Refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F): 7 days
Frozen (-20°C/-4°F or below): 28 days

Specimen Storage in Department Prior to Disposal:
