Instructions

Patients must be fasting for 8 hours prior to specimen collection.

Specimen Collection Criteria

Collect: One Lavender-top EDTA tube.

Physician Office/Draw Specimen Preparation

Let specimen clot 30-60 minutes then centrifuge to separate serum from cells. Transfer serum to plastic transport tube and maintain at room temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F) prior to transport.

Preparation for Courier Transport

Transport: 0.5 mL plasma, refrigerated at (2-8°C or 36-46). (Minimum: 0.3 mL)

Rejection Criteria

Specimens not collected and processed as indicated.

In-Lab Processing

Clinical Utility

Detection of Pancreatic Polypeptide is used in the assessment of pancreatic tumor burden and to assist in the early diagnosis of pancreatic endocrine tumors. The measurement of pancreatic polypeptide is also used to monitor pancreatic carcinoma therapy and to predict the recurrence of pancreatic tumors.
