Specimen Collection Criteria

Collect: One Royal Blue-top tube with no additives.

Physician Office/Draw Specimen Preparation

Let specimen clot 30-60 minutes then centrifuge to separate serum from cells within four hours of collection. Transfer serum to a metal free transport tube. Maintain specimen refrigerated at (2-8°C or 36-46) prior to transport.

Preparation for Courier Transport

Transport: 2.0 mL serum, refrigerated at (2-8°C or 36-46) prior to transport. (Minimum: 0.7 mL)

Rejection Criteria

  • Sodium heparin lead-free (tan top).
  • Hemolyzed specimens.
  • Specimens not collected and processed as indicated.

In-Lab Processing
