Preparation for Courier Transport
Transport: 0.5 mL serum, refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F). (Minimum: 0.25 mL)
Rejection Criteria
- Moderate to gross hemolysis.
- Grossly lipemic.
- Grossly icteric.
- Serum separator tube (SST).
- Specimens not collected and processed as indicated.
In-Lab Processing

Clinical Utility
Deoxycorticosterone (DOC)
is a weak mineralocorticoid derived from 21-hydroxylation of progesterone in
the adrenal cortex. DOC is a precursor of corticosterone and aldosterone and,
like cortisol, is under the primary control of ACTH.
