Instructions

Fasting is not required. Patients should not take Coenzyme Q10 supplements the morning of the test. They may take other nutritional supplements prior to testing.

Specimen Collection Criteria

Collect: One Gold top tube (SST). Wrap the specimen in foil or transfer specimens to amber tubes if they are not to be shipped the same day. Specimens must be protected from direct light.

Gently invert 5X (DO NOT SHAKE).

Physician Office/Draw Specimen Preparation

Let specimen clot for 30 minutes then centrifuge for 10 minutes to separate serum from cells. Transfer serum to amber plastic transport tube or wrap in foil if no available amber transport tube and maintain at refrigerate (2-8°C or 36-46) prior to transport.

Preparation for Courier Transport

Transport: 1.0 mL plasma, refrigerated at (2-8°C or 36-46). (Minimum: 0.3 mL)

Rejection Criteria

• Specimens not protected from light.
• Specimens not collected and processed as indicated.

Inpatient Specimen Preparation

Transport specimen to the Laboratory immediately for processing.

In-Lab Processing

Room Temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F): Unacceptable
Refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F): 14 days
Frozen (-20°C/-4°F or below): 6 weeks

Specimen Storage in Department Prior to Disposal:

Specimen retention time is determined by the policy of the reference laboratory. Contact the Send Outs Laboratory with any questions.
