- This panel is only available to patients at the Royal Oak hospital campus.
- This panel includes: Sodium, Potassium, Glucose, Hemoglobin, and calculated Hematocrit.
Specimen Collection Criteria
Collect: One 4.0 mL Dark Green-top Lithium Heparin tube. (Minimum Whole Blood: 1.0 mL)
Send specimen STAT to the Laboratory after collection.
Do NOT use Dark Green sodium heparin or Light Green plasma separator tubes.
- Moderate to grossly hemolyzed specimens.
- Specimens not received in the Laboratory within 1 hour of collection.
- Specimens collected in sodium heparin or heparin plasma separator tubes
Immediately analyze the whole blood specimen upon receipt in the Laboratory. Centrifuge after whole blood testing is complete.

Specimen Stability for Testing:
Room Temperature (20-26°C or 68-78.8°F): 1 hour
Refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F): Unacceptable
Frozen (-20°C/-4°F or below): Unacceptable
Specimen Storage in Department Prior to Disposal:
Refrigerated (2-8°C or 36-46°F): 7 days

STAT results available within 30 minutes of receipt in the Laboratory.
