Performed

Varies.
Results available in 4-9 days.

Reference Range

By report.

Test Methodology

Semi-Quantitative Complement Fixation.

Interpretation

Single titers of greater than or equal to 1:8 are suggestive of Listeria infection. A four-fold or greater increase in titer between acute and convalescent specimens confirms the diagnosis.

Clinical Utility

A serological diagnosis of Listeria infection can be made on the basis of rise in specific antibody between acute and convalescent sera. Serology is also useful in epidemiological studies of Listeria outbreaks whereas single convalescent sera with titers equal to or greater than 1:8 suggest listeria infection.
